The meaning of CLIO

The name is etymologically derived from the Greek root κλέω/κλείω meaning “to recount,” “to celebrate,” or “to make famous.”

With a nod to its inspiration, CLIO ART FAIR has been created with the idea of showcasing the careers and achievements of already affirmed creative minds.

By specifically targeting artists without any exclusive NYC gallery representation, CLIO ART FAIR focuses its attention on
the kinds of contemporary art and interventions that are being created by independent artists all over the world, since 2014.

Without the constraints and usual concerns of the art business
, the selected artists have been freed up to use different materials and media and to deviate from accepted art practice definitions. The resulting work being exhibited seeks to foster a dialogue that transcends prescribed geographies, hierarchies, and markets; and to further opportunities for greater expression of new media and ever ground-breaking content.

Alessandro Berni,
Founder and Director

Clio art fair was born to challenge traditional art market methodologies.

During its past editions, Clio Art Fair hosted the works of iconic independent artists including:

Vito Acconci

Whitney Biennial 1977, 1981, 1991

Venice Biennial 1976, 1978, 2003

Nina Berman

Whitney Biennial 2010

John Coplans

Art forum Co-founder

The primary goal is to create a space for direct dialogue between artists and collectors, artists and curators without the presence of any long-term mediator. The fair focuses on valuing artworks while respecting and highlighting their role within the architectural spaces they inhabit.

Adding to the innovative nature of our vision, Clio is the first art fair to accept the primary crypto-values as a form of payment: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin, since 2017.
